I couldn't agree more. As an ex freelance business analyst my writing style and experience is too formal and process oriented, so I can't write sales copy to save my life. But some time ago I purchased Clayton Makepeace's Ultimate Desktop Copy coach to get a better understanding of what is needed.

I still can't write my own copy, but it has certainly opened my eyes to what is good/poor/indifferent in other people's copy so I can tell whether I'm getting value for money when I outsource this activity.

It also helps me to choose got chunks of copy to swipe from other ads for use when I do decide to try my hand at this science/art of getting your message across.
